DIY Carpentry: The Essentials
Since I was a teenager, I have pursued the art of carpentry. Now that I have reached the young age of 44, I am still passionate about it. I have achieved the title of carpenter (well according to my wife anyway…haha). Over the years I have purchased several carpenter tools to be able to perform the various DIY projects that I have completed. I quickly learned that the only way to be able to perform many of the carpentry related tasks is to have the proper tools. One of the most useful tools in my arsenal is my Porter Cable cordless drill. I have owned several different brands of drills over the years, but the Porter Cable 20v Lithium Ion that I currently own is by far the best drill I have ever owned. Besides its compact size and versatility, the Lithium Ion batteries last a very long time. I also really like the high torque that it puts out. The variable clutch settings and brushless motor are also a plus. I just finished building a live-edge bench for my mom for mothers day; I used my drill to drive several 3″ wood screws and drill several 1/2″ holes in the log I used for the bench seat. I didn’t swap or charge the battery from the last project I completed, which was a DIY wood Texas flag (that project was over a month ago).
The Project List
I have several projects on my DIY list. Here are a few of them.
- Wood American flag AR rifle and pistol case (for a paying customer)
- DIY carpenter bee trap (with mason jars)
- Asian style bench (that I say on Etsy)
- Whatever gets added to the honey-do list…
Making The Selection
I read several cordless drill reviews on Amazon, Lowe’s, Home Depot, and others to make my final decision about my new drill (I have owned it since July of 2018). Over the next several months, I am going to be discussing several different topics of interest in my Blog. Throughout that time, I will create several posts that are dedicated to the tools and equipment that I use to perform my DIY projects. My reviews are purely based on real world experience.
